EGaDS! News
Great Semester!
Hey EGaDS!
I just want to congratulate everyone on a great semester. We had a lot of new members this year, and we hope to see ya'll back in the Spring. I was especially impressed with the progress that many of you have had with the MOD teams. We had never tried this before, I was glad to see that many of you took to it very well.
I also want to thank our sponsors at EA and Sony Online for their help with the GameCraft competition. Their assistance was vital to the success of the event, Thanks Guys!
One more thing before you head off for the "final fight." The GameCraft competition was covered by local writer, Christopher Burke, and the article is available at gamecareerguide.com, check it out here!
GameCraft Finals!
The much awaited GameCraft Finals are this Thursday, 7pm, in JGB 2.216! Be there to see the game concepts, eat the free food (provided by Sony Online), and talk to our judges! Not competing? Then come for the raffle! We will be providing some seriously good games (such as Spore and Dead Space) as prizes!
Our distinguished judges will be:
Julianna Budding, Designer at Sony Online
Jared Carr, Art Director at Sony Online
Steve Jackson, Founder of Steve Jackson Games
Kalani Streicher, Founder of Kalani Games Inc.
Oge Young, Producer at Sony Online
Hope to see you all there!!!
GameCraft is Go!
EGaDS biannual game design competition has begun. There's still time to submit your team and idea though, so make sure you let Stacy know if you plan on competing.
Remember, this will be a perfect way to meet preofessional designers in the context of showing them your creativity and organization (plus it's really fun) so make sure you don't miss this chance to pitch your game.
Also, as one our of regular meetings this year falls on Halloween Eve (the 30th) we'll be having a special event. Come prepared to build a scarecrow and eat cupcakes!
Game Design Team Launch
Hey Everybody, it was great to see so many of you at the second meeting of the year! I'm very happy with how much interest we have in the Game Design teams, and I can't wait to see the sort of stuff you guys get started on.
In the coming few meetings we'll be introducing GameCraft, the game concept design competition. This should be a great way for you design teams to start on a project together, and for those of you not on design teams, it'll be a fun project to help you get into the design culture.
I'd like to invite all of our new members to create a forum profile. This will be the main way that we'll network and match the skills we have to the design needs of our teams, so be sure to get those set up.
Finally, our first social event of the year has been postponed, but look for Jumbo Soccer next weekend (as long as there are no more hurricanes)!
Welcome New EGaDS Members!
It is my pleasure to welcome all of you to the Electronic Game Developers Society. The other officers and I are very excited to get to know all of you and to start work together on the next generation of video games. At EGaDS we believe very much in the power that a strong community can bring to creative endeavors. Therefore I was very pleased to meet many of you briefly during different orientation events and find this year's group of new students to be so intelligent and motivated.
I am sure that you will be surprised at how much you are able to accomplish when working together and I look forward to seeing the ideas that will come from our new creative teams.
Our first meeting will be on September 4th, at 7pm in JGB 2.216. There will be food and plenty of opportunities to meet each other, so until then good luck with school and I hope to see you all soon.
